American Idol's Taylor Hicks to star in GREASE
Producers of the 2008 Tony Award nominated new Broadway production of GREASE announced that American Idol Season Five winner, TAYLOR HICKS, will star in the national tour of the show.

This production of GREASE, presented as a part of the 2008-2009 Best of Broadway season, will play the Golden Gate Theatre in March and will feature songs from the smash hit 1978 motion picture performed for the first time ever on stage.

TAYLOR HICKS made his debut on Broadway in the role of Teen Angel this past summer. Mr. Hicks achieved widespread fame in 2006 as a contestant on the hugely successful FOX singing competition American Idol.  On May 24, 2006, Hicks was named the winner of the fifth season of Idol with over 63.4 million votes in total.  Winning the title over Katharine McPhee, the announcement was made during the live finale episode which aired to a worldwide audience of over 200 million viewers.

Immediately following Idol, Hicks signed a recording contract with 19 Records Limited / Arista Records.  His debut single, Do I Make You Proud, debuted in the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and was subsequently certified Gold.  His eponymous debut album, Taylor Hicks was released on December 12, 2006 and debuted in the #2 spot on the Billboard 200 charts and was later certified as a Platinum Album.  After signing a book deal with Random House, Hicks memoir Heart Full of Soul: An Inspirational Memoir About Finding Your Voice and Finding Your Way was released in July of 2007.

Judy -

Providence is close enough, I hope! You were the one I thought of immediately when that was the first date listed. You've got to go to this one. Maybe we can hook up with NESP. They're already making plans!

Well, I am thrilled because the Omaha stop is just four hours from me.  It is driveable -- and just hope the weather holds up.  It's a straight line drive right down the highway a couple blocks from my house, albeit four hours, but at least it's not New York where I couldn't afford to get to.

Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!

I think this is a wonderful opportunity for Taylor - A national tour of Grease, the PR and it gives him time to do further work on his up and coming CD - Taylor is a magical performer, gifted to the max. I had the chance to see him in Grease and thought he was perfect as the Teen Angel, he brought life and energy to the character and humor. It was a remarkable performance! I think it's great that others around the country will have the opportunity to see this production and now, Taylor in a role made for him!

raylindy and Darcy all I can say is get your party hats ready you're in for a fun time. The Grease revival returns the audience to a fun period of time when guys had the "hot" cars and were obsessed with their hair and girls wore crinolines, poodle skirts, black and white saddle oxford shoes, and were obsessed with their hair. ;)

Get your tickets, find a group in your area to plan for the show and enjoy the anticipation! I look forward to your participation on the Forum.

I hardly ever wear boots, and Columbus doesn't get as much snow as Akron.

That he is! I don't know why I'm so taken by the picture of him on the bus. I guess because of the way Taylor used to talk about how excited he was to have his own bus after AI. aww.gif

I'm sad about him not performing in Omaha because that was my best bet. I may try Chicago, but the weather in January is so unpredictable. I guess I will wait and see. I really, really want to see him.

OMG, that's such great news! biggrin.gif

http://www.al.com/living/birminghamnews/news.ssf?/base/living/1223540132228880.xml&coll=2

Excerpt:

"It was such a success and such a great way for me to learn a new craft," Hicks says of his Broadway debut. "I feel like if I'm going to have longevity in the entertainment industry, I've got to cover all aspects. I have to reinvent myself."

The national tour of "Grease" will offer a unique hybrid for Hicks, he says.

"We're going to cross-promote this record with the `Grease' tour," he says. "I'll be allowed to perform my single in the show on tour."

Most importantly, it offers fans a chance to experience Hicks live, which he says is crucial to his success.

"There's such a live aspect to me," he says. "You put me on the radio, and you can't see me, you can't feel me, you can't touch me, so it's easy to count me out in that regard. On the road, that's where you really make your mark and have your longevity."
