Release Date For American Idol Champion Taylor Hicks New Album

The season five American Idol Champion Taylor Hicks, who is currently acting in the Broadway Musical, Teen Angel, will release his upcoming album on February 10, 2009. The album, which will be released under Hicks own Modern Whomp Records label, is being produced by Simon Climie. Simon has worked previously with Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana and Faith Hill. The album will be distributed by Artist To Market, an independent music distributor.


Hicks had originally signed a recording contract with RCA chairman Clive Davis Arista Records and Idol creator Simon Fullers 19 Recordings Limited after he won American Idols fifth-season title in May 2006, but Hicks and Artista mutually agreed to dissolve the contract earlier this year.

Taylor was on Jox Radio today and said he'd be recording in Los Angeles. I wonder what band he'll use. And he said he's going to the Playboy Mansion for a Halloween Party!!

When logging into http://www.artist2market.com/, Taylor's record announcement comes up first. Hopefully, they'll have his single player there when the time comes!

Advanced sales for the national tour of Grease, starring American Idol winner Taylor Hicks, are very strong and sales for Legally Blonde, which opened its national tour at the theater in September also were strong, he said.

Well, hello there stranger! It's great to see you on here. It's been quite a while since we've had a chat. For those of you who don't know raylindy....she's a super Taylor fan. I first met her at the KC Taylor concert at the Ameristar Casino and then she kept me up most of the night at the Branson Taylor concert. Paulatroller and I are trying to figure out a way to get to Chicago. There are quite a few going from TRP. You need to stop over there. I would have to get a sub for my classroom and bring my woolens. Dang....Chicago in January Only a SP... I'll try to call you this week sometime. I need a Taylor fix....

The hit musical Grease has always been a global smash. That said, Taylor Hicks of American Idol fame has been writing his own special chapter in the Grease history book, combining the shows high spirited fun with Hicks live performance magic has proved a unique alchemy for this Broadway show. Today, Taylor begins his Grease Broadway tour across America. While Hicks is a headliner, his Teen Angel is not the star of the show. In an interview with TVGuide.com, Taylor talks about his Broadway debut:

"Not only was my first acting gig of [my] life on Broadway, but I was suspended 40 feet in the air, so I wasnt actually on the stage!"

Taylor Hicks, whom the audience adores, has a magical entrance and does a fine job as Teen Angel. While Hicks may be a draw to bring the audience into the theater, he does not rely on gimmickry. Hicks understands the campy nature of the role but approaches Teen Angel with artistic integrity. He gets to wail a few bars on his harmonica, which adds another dimension to the character.

Winning the title over Katharine McPhee, the announcement was made during the live finale episode which aired to a worldwide audience of over 200 million viewers.

Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Taylor Hicks' passion for music began at an early age. He toured the Southeastern United States during his teenage years and released two independent albums. Known for his energetic performances with influences derived from classic soul, blues and R&B music, he quickly grew a large fan base among the millions of viewers and voters who tuned in to "Idol" each week. His fans ultimately dubbed themselves the "Soul Patrol."

Immediately following "Idol," Hicks signed a recording contract with 19 Records Limited / Arista Records. His debut single, "Do I Make You Proud," debuted in the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and was subsequently certified Gold. His eponymous debut album, Taylor Hicks was released on December 12, 2006 and debuted in the #2 spot on the Billboard 200 charts and was later certified as a Platinum Album. It is a sad day, with the Broadway production of GREASE closing. GREASE does live on through other productions throughout the world. Judging by youtube, it seems to be a favorite with high school and local theater productions. I know it's not the same, but the tour is still going strong. They begin a 2 week run in Chicago on Tuesday. Here's the remaining tour schedule.
