Great Grease News!
Permalink Closed

Hey Everyone,

There is good news around the bend. Since the closing of Grease has been announced, something new has come of it. Due to the nature of this news and the time constraints involved in delivering the news to you, I cannot give you a specific time and date of when I can let the cat out of the bag, but I can tell you that it will more than likely be next week sometime.

I would like all the users of this group, both regulars and (not so regulars, the irregulars) to stay tuned to this thread. I guarantee that you will not be dissapointed with what is to be unveiled.

You thread title is very misleading! Just don't understand why you would start a thread today, if you had news for next week. lolbiggrin.gif

UGH!!! STOP TEASING. It's bad enough the show is closing. First Ace does it on his facebook and now here. You have me wondering now about Max Crumm and why Ace was `vibing' him.... HMMMM.

The news will be well worth it in the end. This doesn't involve one particular person. It's much bigger than one person can possibly take on. I am waiting for a few key people from this forum to jump on the waiting list as this will take off and be better than I could have ever imagined. Why the tease? Well I look at it this way, alot of people on here were torn at the news of the show closing. This is the ray of light that should overshadow the dismal news of the show's demise. It'll be an early X-mas present for everyone, I guarantee it.

This doesn't involve some sort of board trip to Grease, does it?

Sorry, this board is limited. I was trying to enter a countdown clock in HTML but it doesn't allow it. I can tell you the following...

This doesn't invole a contest that will last a week or 2 like my last thread.

This is not based on any one celebrity or gossip.

My goal is to have an official announcement for the news by Friday, Dec 19th, 2008 by 7PM (EST)which is why I was trying to enter a countdown clock, but this site doesn't allow it.

I anticipate that this date may be moved up further for announcement, however depending on the circumstances involved, it may or may not happen before the above listed time and date (although I am pushing for sooner rather than later).

The only thing that could make me push for sooner is seeing enthusiasm from all the members who still participate on this board in gearing up in something that could be really spectacular based on how many fans still exist and care.

No board trip to Grease, although if someone arranged it, I would tag along as I would like to see it once more before it closes. (Keep in mind, when the 1994 revival closed, they added another 6 week block of tickets for sale so could this be possible for the current production?) and no, this query is not related to the news.

I want to go in next week with my son, who wants to see the show and will be home for Christmas break! It would be great to see the show with loyal Greasers. The timing is just so hard with the holidays here and expenses. Oh, dear Grease gods - what can you do for us??

Dec 19? I'm leaving for DC that night and don't know if I'll have any computer access for the whole weekend.

Is there anyone in particular that you're waiting for? I just hope you're not waiting for someone who doesn't come to the board anymore. Someone like Andromytta for instance.

Not 1 specific person. I know who I have seen as regulars on here so I am just hoping by the time I let the cat out of the bag that everyone that can be here, will be. To answer a different question, why am I the only one who seems to have the news? That answer will be apparent when I deliver it.

First, I would like to say that I would have been much active on this board throughout the run of the play on stage, but finishing college, working a 72 hr a week job and trying to find one that meets my career goals took up pretty much all of any spare time I could possibly imagine. All my goals have been met to this point so you will be seeing lots more of me, especially come news time.

I hope in the end, we become a more tightly knit group given the circumstances of the show's closing.

I bet you're right, Shadi!  What else could be a better gift than being able to have a DVD of the show?  Having a DVD of Ashley as "Sandy" would make my Christmas!  Plus, FonZuko seems to have a connection with DVDs.  Maybe all of the gurus on the board can get a free copy!  I'm keeping my fingers crossed!  smile

Rent went to DVD because there was a broadcast of it in movie theaters before it closed. Broadway shows do not frequently go to DVD except bootleg ones.

The final performance of Rent was broadcast in movie theatres before a DVD release was announced. That show ran for ten or eleven years and touched the lives of more people than Grease ever did. I was never a Rent fan but I can still admit the reach of that show was much stronger than that of Grease. The only DVD release of Grease you'll be able to find are bootlegs. The cost of filming a show are so staggering. The producers have the rights to perform the show but not tape it so they'd have to obtain those rights - money. Bring in a film crew - money. Go through another union - money. The list goes on and on.

I would be severely shocked if this big news that's brewing has anything to do with a DVD or threatical release.

I've seen loads of Broadway shows on PBS. I would be thrilled if it even gets that far. As for this surprise, I will admit I am intrigued. BUT I asked a cast member that I am in contact with and they knew nothing and said they do not frequent these forums also.

I hope there IS a nice surprise for fans and friends of this show.

While it is true that PBS does broadcast broadway shows, most of them are staged for TV.

Somehow I highly doubt this version of Grease is PBS material. Maybe MTV but not PBS.

MTV would be good for Ace's career. What about the others?? I wouldn't care what station it was on. I would just love to get me a copy!

MTV couldn't hurt anyone's career. But all this is nonsense as we are speculating about some person who has made the claim he/she knows something without an evidence that it is true.

Hey everyone,

2 things:

This does not involve a physical meeting.

This should appeal to Grease fans old and new.

For those of you who are skeptical and saying things like "it's so odd that nobody else knows" I am not about to stoop to a 10 year old's level and have a flame war with you. I have no reason to come on here and make an ass of myself and make a claim that isn't true. While my news is something that I believe to be a great thing, peoples speculation will more than likely get everyones hopes up much further than I ever could. Hopefully the mature crowd can take what I say and put it into context and not let the ramblings of others warp their thoughts on the validity of my claim. If you look at my history on the board, it's not much but goes back to the beginning since the play was here, all my comments were not aimed at attacking people directly or saying stupid things. And you would get to know more about me at the same time as some of the stuff was quite revealing about what I really liked about grease. Just something for you to look into.

That all being said, I"ll be around and on target.

PS. Being that I had wanted the regulars to be a part of the news, ERIS has mentioned that (she??) wouldn't be around on the 19th at 7PM so if I have to wait this long before I share the news, what do you guys think of a conference call? It doesn't matter either way, I am just willing to make it convenient and yet more exciting for everyone.

I do keep myself busy with my family and shopping for Christmas, but I will find a way be available at the designated time for some uplifting news. If it is truly big news for all Grease fans, it would also appeal to my best friend who was going to see the show with me on Jan 10th; Dec 19th is her birthday and any positive news about the NY show would be a great gift!

Well, I think we should all just quit reading the thread. We all have better things to do than to sit around waiting for someone to throw us a bone. I, for one, have much better things to do this time of year! I will check in after the Holidays! Hopefully, the Board will still be up by then!

Merry Christmas All!

I'm a new and infrequent poster here - so it seems that apparently this news really isn't for people like me. I don't understand the reason for a time table unless the news is an announcement coming from the show's producers. If it's not something along the lines of a press release that they want to announce in a particular way, why don't you just say it? Old regulars will see it when they happen to come around.

I'm still curious to know what the news is....

If there is any news about the show, you will here it from the Producers and not a poster on the message boards!

I agree--no need to keep building this up.  If it was just shared now, there would be no need for speculation.  This is a busy time of year, and people aren't always around at the same time, nor should they feel that they need to be.  People should be focusing on their families and celebrating the holiday season!  People will see whatever Fonzuko is sharing when they have a chance to be on here.
